PAHL CURFEW PROCEDURES

OVERVIEW

OVERVIEW

There are two options for applying a curfew time to a PAHL game, and associations must apply the same option to all of its hosted games for the duration of the season:

  1. No curfew time, as approved by the host venue
  2. A specific end time that is no less than the minimum length required of the game slot

There are three curfew scenarios that can happen in a PAHL game:

  1. No curfew is applied (no curfew time entered into the scoresheet)
  2. The curfew point is reached with more than 1:00 remaining on the game clock
  3. The curfew point is reached with 1:00 or less remaining on the game clock

The curfew point is reached when the "real world" time reaches the curfew time denoted on the scoresheet and then there is a natural stoppage in play. Play is never stopped solely due to reaching the curfew time.

The procedure for each scenario is outlined below.

NO CURFEW

If no curfew is applied by the host rink -- or if no curfew time is cited on the scoresheet at the time the head coaches sign the sheet prior to the start of the game -- then no curfew point can ever be reached.  Therefore, the game must be played to completion (a final buzzer with no clock adjustments and no curfew).

An exception applies if a lengthy delay during the game forces the facility to end the game before completion, in which case the game is deemed a Suspended Game. The League Office reviews Suspended Games and issues a ruling.

LESS THAN 1:00 LEFT

If 1:00 or less remains on the game clock at the corresponding stoppage in play, no adjustments are made to the clock nor to any posted penalty times, but the officials and teams are informed that curfew time has been reached.  The game is then played to completion using standard rules and protocols.

Teams and officials are expected to expediate procedures during stoppages to finish the game quickly, and the handshake between the teams may be waived so that the teams exit the ice surface immediately following the final buzzer.

MORE THAN 1:00 LEFT

If more than 1:00 remains on the game clock at the corresponding stoppage in play, teams and officials are notified, and the game clock is adjusted to place exactly 1:00 in remaining in the game. Posted penalty times are not adjusted. The game is then played to completion using standard rules and protocols.

Teams and officials are expected to expediate procedures during stoppages to finish the game quickly, and the handshake between the teams may be waived so that the teams exit the ice surface immediately following the final buzzer.
